Student and Teacher, Santa Maria del Mar, Cuba, 2015

When she heard that we would photograph her along with her teacher, she was simply ecstatic. She loves to be photographed period, but when she knew that she'd have the chance to do so with her favorite instructor, she was almost overwhelmed.

She acted differently, in the sweetest of ways. She loved every minute of it, as she soaked up the instructions alongside the sweet attention. For her part, the teacher was exemplary for she knew how important this was for her student. Rather than focusing the spotlight onto her, she gently guided her student along and allowed us to photograph them together for the majority of the time.

It was an honor to have been there for this moment, and to have been asked by her instructor to be included in our work after our work became known to her. To ask is one thing, but to be asked is another thing entirely. I look forward to the possibility of another session this summer, and to the surprises that Cuba has to offer always!
