Anays Diz Pe + Railroad Tracks, Guanabacoa, Cuba, 2015

Just now this exquisite spirit is speaking with me via messenger. She is telling me about her life, about her most recent experiences. Such is the beauty behind the photography, the relationships formed over the years. She met me while standing in front of her dance school almost a decade ago, and now we speak as best of friends even when far away.

For this image we drove out in Alejandro's car to his son's neighborhood. It's a beautiful place and we always find new spaces within which to work. Anays finds inspiration wherever we find ourselves, and is able to express herself in a moment's notice.

From the railroad tracks to an open field to a blue chair in front of an old home, she relentlessly finds a way to interpret her environment. She is a magical, young woman... and is reason enough for me to book my flight to Cuba this summer.

Note: This image was made with a Hasselblad 555 ELD/180 mm combination.
