¡Sentado en mi casa esta noche y escaneando los rollos del año pasado en Cuba!

Gracias a Tamy por su talento inmenso, y para ayudarme en hacer imágenes sin iguales. Solo con su comprensión sincera podríamos haber hecho imágenes en este campo de béisbol, en esta estructura. Ella es la mejor profesional, pero caminó conmigo en la hierba mojada para que pudiéramos hacer esta imagen.

Pronto verá las docenas de imágenes increíbles que hicimos en esta memorable mañana, y sabrá que las generaciones futuras serán testigos de su espíritu inigualable.

Three Girls, Shamli District, Uttar Pradesh, India, 2018

In three weeks I'll be heading to this very spot to document the good work being accomplished. According to our dear brother Imdadullah Nadvi Nadvi the students are sincerely happy and the school is coming along beautifully. Over 100 girls are attending now, and the sewing centers are thriving.

Bailarina + Plaza, Habana Vieja, Cuba, 2018

Esta noche en mi apartamento estoy escaneando los rollos del verano pasado en Cuba. Se ha seleccionado una imagen para compartir esta noche, un recordatorio de una tarde especial con Iberodance.

Estábamos haciendo un video esa tarde, moviéndonos de una plaza a otra. Después de terminar esa parte del video, estábamos a punto de pasar a la siguiente plaza cuando le pregunté al equipo por unos minutos.

Cuatro de los bailarines se quedaron atrás e hicimos una docena de fotografías. Esta es una de las bailarinas y esta es solo una de las fotografías realizadas. Fue una tarde mágica y estoy agradecido a la compañía por esta imagen memorable.

Tonight in my apartment I am scanning the rolls from the past summer in Cuba. One image has been selected to share this evening, a reminder of a special afternoon with Iberodance.

We were making a video on that afternoon, moving from one plaza to another. After we finished that part of the video we were about to move to the next plaza when I asked the team for a few minutes.

Four of the dancers remained behind and we made a dozen photographs. This is one of the dancers and this is just one of the photographs made. It was a magical afternoon and I am thankful to the company for this memorable image.

Students + Classroom, Shamli District, Uttar Pradesh, India, 2018

When the girls find out that we are making pictures with the digital camera, they rush to the classroom. Other than knowing that they will be receiving the photographs, they just love to express themselves!

Here we can see the girls on the left itching to step forward, barely giving us enough space to photograph their two friends. My dear friend Mukesh works more than he has ever in his life justto calm everyone down, and does so with the most beautiful smile!

In less than four weeks this is the room where we will photograph the girls once again, and I look forward to that immensely!

Cuando las muchachas descubren que estamos tomando fotos con la cámara digital, corren al salón de clases. Además de saber que recibirán las fotografías, ¡les encanta expresarse!

Aquí podemos ver a las muchachas de la izquierda que quieren dar un paso adelante, casi sin darnos suficiente espacio para fotografiar a sus dos amigos. Mi querido amigo Mukesh trabaja más que nunca en su vida solo para calmar a todas, ¡y lo hace con la sonrisa más hermosa!

En menos de cuatro semanas, esta es la sala donde fotografiaremos a las muchachas una vez más, ¡y espero que sea inmensa!

Friends in Classroom, Uttar Pradesh, India, 2018

In less than four weeks I will be in this classroom which houses the sewing classes for these young girls, and their older sisters. Five years of visits has allowed them to feel more comfortable in front of the camera, allowing us a rare glimpse into their world! 

Teacher in Virat Nagar, Rajasthan, India, 2018

This is a portrait of the teacher in one of two village schools near Virat Nagar, Rajasthan. In all 40 or so students attend classes in these two schools, and in both villages sewing centers are thriving. In three weeks I head to this area to once again document the great work being accomplished, as well as the joy of the students.

I have been visiting these areas for the past 10 years, and those of you who know me know this work. The team is working hard in eight villages, and has three schools for girls and five sewing centers providing education for girls who would otherwise be lacking such an opportunity.

Cubano, Campo, cuba, 2018

Lo sorprendente de este país es que en la mañana podríamos estar en la ciudad con los bailarines más talentosos y luego en la tarde con la gente noble del campo.

En este retrato hay un hombre amable que se detuvo por un minuto para permitir que se hiciera su retrato. Como no teníamos nada planeado para la tarde, decidimos salir de la ciudad. Buscábamos personas que trabajaran con sus manos y encontramos a este hombre con su caballo.

Hablamos unos minutos y él accedió a ser fotografiado. La cámara estaba en el asiento trasero, lista para usar. Lo instalamos y rápidamente hicimos su retrato, para que él pudiera ir y alimentar a su caballo con la hierba que acababa de cortar.

Estos son los momentos mágicos para mí, tanto por la hora como por la memoria.

Cuban, Countryside, Cuba, 2018

What is amazing about this country is that in the morning we could be in the city with the most talented dancers and then in the afternoon with the noble people of the countryside.

In this portrait is a gentle man who stopped for a minute to allow his portrait to be made. Since we had nothing planned for the afternoon we decided to drive out of the city. We were looking for people working with their hands, and found this man with his horse.

We spoke for a few minutes and he agreed to be photographed. The camera was in the back seat, ready to use. We set it up and quickly made his portrait, so that he could go and feed his horse with the grass he had just cut.

These are the magical moments for me, both because of the hour and also because of the memory.

Laura + Gato, La Habana Vieja, Cuba, 2018

El verano pasado, mi querida amiga Gysleda tuvo la idea de caminar por la ciudad con algunos de sus alumnos de EGOS. También fuimos bendecidos con la compañía de la magnífica Patricia y su magnífica creatividad.

Aprendimos del año anterior, cuando nos sentimos abrumados por la cantidad de estudiantes. Esta vez nos reunimos más tarde por la tarde e incluimos menos de 10. Todos tomaron aproximadamente una hora para prepararnos, y luego comenzamos a trabajar en las calles.

La primera mitad de la sesión fue totalmente digital, y cuando la luz era perfecta, se usó la cámara analógica. En este marco encontramos una tienda en la esquina y les preguntamos a los hombres si podían usar el espacio. Estuvieron de acuerdo y en medio de la gente que caminaba, usamos dos rollos para fotografiar 24 imágenes.

En medio del rollo de Laura, un gato decidió aparecer. Fue mágico, y tratamos de ser lo más tranquilos posible. El gato estuvo sereno todo el tiempo, miró a Laura a veces y miró a la calle otras veces. ¡Fue perfecto!

Laura + Cat, Old Havana, Cuba, 2018

This past summer my dear friend Gysleda came up with the idea of walking around the city with some of her students from EGOS. We were blessed also with the company of the magnificent Patricia and her superb creativity.

We learned from the previous year, when we were overwhelmed by the number of students. This time around we met later in the afternoon and included less than 10. Everyone took about an hour to get ready, and then we began our work in the streets.

The first half of the session was all digital, and when the light was perfect the analog camera was used. In this frame we found a corner store and asked the men inside if we could use the space. They agreed and in the middle of people walking around we used two rolls to photograph 24 images.

In the middle of Laura's roll, a cat decided to appear. It was magical, and we tried to be as calm as possible. The cat was serene the entire time, looked at Laura sometimes and looked to the street other times. It was perfect!

El Verano Pasado, Cuba, 2018

Students + Classroom, Uttar Pradesh, India, 2018

A rare glimpse into her world is seen here, as a photograph of the girls is usually impermissible. It is an honor to have permission to do so. The team in her village is working hard to make the school as successful as possible. 

In six weeks I will be standing in this spot, as well in adjacent villages and madrasas, in order to gain further understanding of the need and to help implement the educational program desired by the community. The result so far has been very encouraging, and we have begun the implementation. We have gained the support of the community, began the process of putting together at least three sewing centers, and are working towards our first model, village school in the region.

It has been my honor to bring this proposal to this circle, and I look forward to sharing more news as it develops. Anyone interested in joining us will also be matched 1:1, making that difference more incredible.
